Dr. Magdalena Swierczewski is an Integrative Antiaging specialist and medical doctor dedicated to restoring and optimizing health outcomes using both western medicine and holistic approaches.

Hormone Imbalances

Because our hormones are responsible for most of the processes our bodies perform,  the cells in our bodies rely on hormones for proper communication from these chemicals. They are essentially messengers in the body that control various biological and psychological functions. They are also responsible for maintaining homeostasis. Just a slight imbalance can have a dramatic impact on your health and mood.

As we age, hormone levels (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, pregnenolone, melatonin) fall and lead to symptoms of perimenopause/menopause in women, and symptoms of Andropause in men. This causes an increase in undesirable symptoms such as weight gain, decreased sex drive, hair loss, and extreme fatigue.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

To counteract hormone imbalances, doctors often recommend hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Dr. Magdalena’s approach is vastly different from the majority of medical doctors because of her thorough examination process and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) which has the natural ability to balance hormones as opposed to HRT. Dr. Magdalena explains, “Bioidentical hormones improve low hormone levels and put our bodies back into balance, optimizing our health outcomes.”

She continues, “Though bioidentical hormones are made from plant estrogens that are chemically identical to those found in the body. BHRT is used to naturally balance levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. This method is considered natural because the effects are the same as those naturally produced.”

Dr. Magdalena elaborates by saying, “Unlike their synthetic counterparts, bioidentical hormones are compounded hormones derived from naturally occurring sources, such as soy or yams. Bioidentical hormones are designed to be structurally indistinguishable from the natural hormone made by the human body. This exact-match replication reduces side effects and risks, as well as enhances the effectiveness of the treatment. Achieving Balance

Dr. Magdalena describes the process, “Bioidentical hormones are compounded at a compounding pharmacy. Compounding pharmacies operate under guidelines established by the FDA. Compounded hormones are specifically made by a compounding pharmacist in the exact strength and dosage as prescribed by the attending practitioner.”

She continues, “Bioidentical hormones, in most cases, cannot be patented and made into mass prescription forms by large pharmaceutical companies. Instead, doses are carefully determined after an experienced and highly-trained hormone therapy practitioner meets with the patient to review and discuss their medical history, symptoms, lifestyle, and lab results. This information ensures that patients get a treatment plan and prescriptions that meet the specific needs of their bodies.”

Dr. Magdalena emphasizes, “Hormonal balance is not achieved by meeting some ubiquitous standard of normal—balance is reached when optimal function is restored for the person. Bio-identical hormones are available in the form of a pill, cream, patch, gel, and injectable.”

Patient Testimonial

Many patients can attest to Dr. Magdalena’s approach to hormone therapy. One of her patients says she is so grateful to have found Dr. Magdalena. After having her last baby, she claims that she had never felt fully recovered and just felt off.

Dr. Magdalena performed a thorough physical exam and an extensive blood work analysis and found that the patient had a hormone imbalance. “I speak with each patient at length about their concerns,” the physician states. “I want to get to the root of the problem rather than just suppress the symptoms.”

Once the patient started hormone replacement therapy, she says she could finally function and take care of her children again. Dr. Magdalena’s knowledge of integrative therapies and internal medicine helps patients balance their hormones for optimal function to feel their best.
