Vivid Vison’s Advice on How to Build Your Media Presence

Share

As ironic as it sounds, Vivid Vision was pretty resistant to starting any social media accounts when they first started to pop up. “I knew I had an addictive personality and that once I started social media, I wouldn’t be able to keep my hands off of it!” Vivid Vision admits, “Back then, I wasn’t pursuing modeling or my business professionally yet, so had no real reason to start an account.”

Vivid Vision only started a Facebook account because her sister created it for her. “As for Instagram @vivid_vision, a friend took my phone and just created my account for me,” she says, laughing. “I started a Twitter @vividvision22 account because I was having dinner with some Japanese music industry professionals, and their boss asked me if I had Twitter so he could follow me… of course, I told him yes, lol!” She literally created an account at that moment so they could follow each other. She notes that in Japanese culture, they rarely use Facebook or Instagram. Twitter is a more prominent international social media platform that they use.

She eventually started to branch out and make personal travel videos which she posted on Youtube. Her Youtube channel is now dedicated to Vivid Vision, where she shares cosplay videos, travel videos, and music videos. “Now I have four youtube channels!” Vivid Vision explains. “I own an apparel company called “Noms” (www.nomsco.com), so my associates and I decided to make food-related videos for our Noms channel.” She also has a Tiktok and a podcast called “Vivid Talks.” Vivid Talks invites successful social media influencers for interviews to share the details of their story that led them to success.

Vivid Vision initially started posting on social media for fun, making posts that were of her just doing the things she loved to do so that she could share her joy with her friends.

“I also used it to record all the events and activities I attended, like a personal photo diary for myself,” she shares. “Eventually, I started to gain a lot of traction and new followers on my accounts because of the creative posts and modeling.” Vivid Vision then became interested in how her posts were performing. She started posting different photos, editing captions, and testing what type of day her audience would want to see her posts. “I eventually developed a routine that worked for me and kept tweaking it to evolve with the audience’s interests,” she says. “It was a lot of fun to keep challenging myself in the social media game!”

Because she continues to attend numerous anime and video game conventions worldwide, Vivid Vision has had to increase the number of costumes she makes and the number of posts on her social media accounts. “This led to increased growth for my socials,” she explains. “When I hit the 70k follower mark on Instagram, that was my magic number, and things just started to take off.” She’s observed that every year after that, her follower base has doubled. “When I reached the 70k mark, sponsors started to reach out to me,” she maintains. “Other influencers started to reach out to me to work on collaborations, and that definitely helped to share and expand our audience base.”

She posts on all her socials daily but takes Sundays off from posting on the wall but still does Instagram stories. “I always try to respond to my commenters and messages as much as I can each day, and I also try my best to answer all my business emails,” she explains. “ And because I spend so much time engaging with my followers, I don’t browse social media at all!” She laughs, saying she doesn’t consume any social media content and never scrolls her newsfeeds.

You never know when social media may change their algorithm. Something that might have worked in the past may not work now. “Keep in mind that social media platforms are businesses, and they make changes to do what’s best for their business,” Vivid Vision advises. “You have to see it from the business perspective and make a decision about whether you want to continue to create content on that platform or try something else,” she emphasizes. “If that social media platform continues to have merits for your business, you should just accept it and continue to adapt and be flexible to keep up with the platform’s new directions.”

Vivid Vision knows it can be tough to figure out what they want you to do. She relates, “When I first started on social media, every time they changed something, I would have to do some trial and error tests to see what worked for my brand.” Vivid Vision suggests looking up advice from other experienced influencers or asking your peers. She participates in a few influencer groups so that they can share experiences and offer support with troubleshooting.
